AI Assistant

The AI Assistant is a chat interface powered by Claude (Anthropic) that has access to your real financial data. You can ask it questions about your books, request summaries, or have it generate reports in plain language.

What the AI Can See

Every message you send includes a snapshot of your current financial data:

• Current month and YTD revenue, expenses, and net profit
• Breakdown by business line
• Recent transaction history

The AI uses this context to give answers specific to your actual numbers, not generic advice.

Getting Started

Go to AI Assistant in the left sidebar. Type your question or request in the chat box and press Enter (or click Send).

The AI remembers the conversation within a session but starts fresh each time you reload the page.

What to Ask

Financial summaries:

• "How is my business doing this month compared to last month?"
• "Which business line is most profitable?"
• "What are my top expense categories?"

Month-end close:

• "Generate a month-end close checklist for me"
• "What do I need to do before I can close out April?"

Tax prep:

• "Give me a tax prep summary for Q1"
• "What expenses should I review before sending to my accountant?"

Year-end:

• "Write a year-end financial summary for 2024"
• "What was my total revenue and expense breakdown for the year?"

Advice and analysis:

• "My expenses went up significantly this month — what might explain that?"
• "Am I on track to be profitable this quarter?"

Limitations

• The AI cannot modify your books — it can only read and analyze
• It does not have access to your bank accounts, invoices, or client details — only the transaction summary data
• It cannot file taxes, provide certified financial advice, or replace an accountant
• The AI's knowledge cutoff means it may not know about recent tax law changes — verify any tax guidance with a professional

Privacy

Financial data is sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train models. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details.

Requires API Key

The AI Assistant requires ANTHROPIC_API_KEY to be set in the server's .env file. If it's not configured, the Assistant section will not appear in the navigation. Contact your administrator to enable it.
